Brownies & Guides

1st Mellis Brownies

1st Yaxley and Mellis Guides

Mellis Brownies and Guides meet weekly in the village during term time.

Brownies (aged 7-10)

We offer the girls a range of activities, some of which are suggested by them.  Some weeks the Brownies will complete activities that count towards an interest or challenge badge while other weeks will just be for fun. The Brownies have the opportunity to go on Pack Holidays.  In recent years the have been to Patteson Lodge at Coltishall, The Jarman Centre at Newmarket and Hallowtree at Ipswich.

For more information about Brownies please see the Brownies website -

Guides (aged 10-14)

The Guides get involved in a wide range of different activities – many of which have been suggested and organised by the Guides themselves. There is always something for everyone to enjoy. Some our activities are linked to Guide badges or other challenge badges and others are simply for fun or for a good cause.  There are also opportunities for Guides to attend camps and represent the County at international events.

For more information about Guides please see Guides website –

Rainbows (aged 5-7)

Whilst Mellis does not have a Rainbow unit, there is a unit that meets in Stoke Ash.

The girls take part in a range of activities, these include crafts and games to help them develop self-confidence, independence and make new friends along the way.  The Rainbows have an annual sleepover at a local village hall and a day trip.  Recent trips have been to Africa Alive, Colchester Zoo and Bewilderwood.

For more information about Rainbows please see the Rainbows website -
